Indiana Jones Is Back in New Empire Magazine Cover, New Image Revealed
Are you ready for an adventure? Harrison Ford is back as the legendary archeologist in the new cover image for Empire Magazine, which will include the first-ever coverage of Indiana Jones 5.
Empire is promising plenty of first-look photos of the film as well as interviews with director James Mangold, writers Jez and John-Henry Butterworth, producers Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, and Simon Emanuel, plus lead actors Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Shaunette Renée Wilson, and Boyd Holbrook.

The long string of interviews by Empire Magazine also began to be revealed today. Harrison Ford, who also appears in a brand-new image from the film seen below, revealed that he’s more than happy with the film they have and that it is everything we’ve come to expect from an Indiana Jones film:
“It’s full of adventure, full of laughs, full of real emotion. And it’s complex and it’s sneaky. The shooting of it was tough and long and arduous. But I’m very happy with the film that we have.”
Ford is understandably very protective of the character, perhaps even more than he is of Han Solo. But he wanted to give him a last adventure… as long as the script felt right:
“I just thought it would be nice to see one where Indiana Jones was at the end of his journey. If a script came along that I felt gave me a way to extend the character.”
Director James Mangold jumped on board after Steven Spielberg, who helmed the previous four installments, stepped down in early 2020. He told Empire that it was the challenge of having the hero ride into the sunset one last time that swayed him:
“It became really important to me to figure out how to make this a movie about a hero at sunset. The issues I brought up about Indy’s age were not things I thought were being addressed in the material being developed at the time. There were ‘old’ jokes, but the material itself wasn’t about it. To me, whatever you greatest liability, you should fly straight towards that. If you try to pretend it’s not there, you end up getting slings and arrows the whole way.”
No title has been revealed yet for Indiana Jones 5, but with the marketing campaign finally kicking in, that should be coming out any day now. Director James Mangold has promised the trailer will drop within the next few weeks, ahead of Avatar: The Way of Water, which debuts in theaters on December 16.
This will be Ford’s last time wearing the hat and whip, though the franchise is definitely not dead. Lucasfilm Games was reportedly in early development of a video game at the beginning of 2021 with Wolfenstein developer MachineGames; and Disney is also planning a live-action series for Disney Plus that would be centered around a young Abner Ravenwood, Marion Ravenwood’s father, who we never met in the movies despite much talk of him. Creatives from the film are expected to be back for the series, which would follow Abner training a set of future archeologists.
Indiana Jones 5 will debut in theaters on June 30, 2023.
