Taika Waititi New Apple TV Plus Series ‘Time Bandits’ Sets Lisa Kudrow To Lead Cast

Taika Waititi and Lisa Kudrow team up for Time Bandits

Taika Waititi will not stop working. As he says farewell to the MCU (at least for a while) after the release of Thor: Love and Thunder this summer, and as he prepares to embark on a journey to a galaxy far, far away, he is already setting up a Time Bandits TV series at Apple.

The new show is described as “a comedic journey through time and space with a ragtag group of thieves and their newest recruit: an 11-year-old history nerd”. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the cast has been assembled, and it includes Lisa Kudrow, Kal-El Tuck, Charlyne Yi, Tadhg Murphy, Roger Jean Nsengiyumva, Rune Temte, Kiera Thompson, and Rachel House.

Waititi will serve as co-writer on the series and direct the first two episodes. He is currently working on Our Flag Means Death, which just started shooting — in addition to playing Blackbeard on the show, Waititi is also an executive producer. Kudrow was most recently seen in Netflix’s Space Force, which was canceled not too long ago.

Time Bandits is also part of Apple’s strategy to face its streaming competition: prioritizing big names over big franchises. While Taika Waititi may have lost some people with Love and Thunder, his television work remains unimpeachable for now. Our Flag Means Death was a far bigger hit than HBO Max ever anticipated (the series topped popularity charts long after it finished its run), and What We Do in the Shadows is one of FX’s gems, and subscribers know it. He is also an executive producer on Hulu’s Reservation Dogs.
