Netflix Uploads Final ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ Trailer

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

The anime series set to expand the world of Cyberpunk 2077 has finally unleashed a final trailer which confirms a September 13 release date on Netflix.

As we near the two-year anniversary of the rocky launch of Cyberpunk 2077, Netflix and Studio Trigger have finally hacked into socials and dropped the final trailer for Edgerunners, an anime series that was first announced in June 2020. Check out the hyperviolent and relentlessly paced (NSFW) trailer below:

Even though the series’ original story takes place in the same universe as CD Projekt Red’s video game and its tabletop predecessor, Edgerunner has Trigger’s distinct style all over it, so we’re looking at an ultra-stylized take on the source material. The official synopsis reads as follows:

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners tells a standalone, 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner — a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.

It might sound like pretty standard cyberpunk stuff, but the trailer we just saw is anything but safe, so we should expect many twists, turns, and stylish action scenes, more than enough to distance itself from other works of the genre.

On top of the date announcement and the trailer drop, Netflix also shared a simple but attractive poster featuring one of the main characters, Lucy, ahead of next month’s launch:

The Japanese voice cast includes Aoi Yûki as Lucy (Your Name), Kenichiro Ohashi as David (Platinum End), Kenjirô Tsuda as Ripperdoc (Attack on Titan), Kazuhiko Inoue as Faraday (Mob Psycho 100), and Wataru Takagi as Pilar (Star Wars: Visions), among others.

Listed as directors are Hiroyuki Imaishi (Inferno Cop, KILL la KILL) and Hiromi Wakabayashi (Panty & Stocking). The scripts come from Little Witch Academia producer Yoshiki Usa and writer Masahiko Ôtsuka.
