‘The Rings of Power’ To Have Two-Episode Premiere on September 1st
Prime Video has announced that the upcoming The Rings of Power series will have a two-episode premiere on the night of September 1st/2nd.
Both episodes of the series will debut on Prime Video on September 1st at 9pm ET/6pm PT in the U.S., and at 2am of September 2nd in the U.K. They were both directed by J. A. Bayona, and will probably act as a two-part introduction to the Second Age of Middle-earth.
We know that the series is going to introduce a lot of new characters, locations and storylines, and just one episode will probably not do it justice. For that reason, Amazon has opted for a two-part premiere, something that is not exactly a new strategy in the streaming wars but that has worked in the past. Hawkeye had a 2-episode premiere late last year, as did Obi-Wan Kenobi in May of this year. Most shows on Apple TV Plus have two- or three-episode premieres so that audiences can familiarize themselves with the characters and the storylines before forgetting about them by the time the next episode comes.
The Rings of Power will be released in the middle of a stream of high-budget fantasy content in the streaming landscape. House of the Dragon, the highly-anticipated prequel series to Game of Thrones, will set fire to HBO on Sunday, August 21, while the new live-action series from Marvel Studios, She-Hulk, will delight audiences this Thursday, August 18, with its snappy sense of humor. Both shows will have a single-episode premiere, with the former running for 10 episodes, and the latter, for 9. And last but not least, Andor will have a three-episode debut on September 21, a few weeks after The Rings of Power releases its first two episodes on Prime Video.
The first season of the Lord of the Rings show will be eight episodes long, meaning it will conclude on October 14. New episodes will air weekly at midnight on the East Coast of the U.S. This will be 9pm PT Thursdays/5am BST Fridays. Production on season 2 is set to begin this October.
Miguel Fernández is a Spanish student that has movies as his second passion in life. His favorite movie of all time is The Lord of the Rings, but he is also a huge Star Wars fan. However, fantasy movies are not his only cup of tea, as authors like Scorsese, Fincher, Kubrick or Hitchcock have been an obsession for him since he started to understand the language of filmmaking. He is that guy who will watch a black and white movie, just because it is in black and white.
