‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Star Karen Gillan Teases ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ and Closing Out a Chapter With ‘Vol. 3’

In a new interview, Karen Gillan teased that Thor: Love and Thunder has as much of Taika’s classic comedy as expected, and also briefly discussed closing out a chapter with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Speaking to SYFY WIRE while promoting her new movie Dual, Gillan was briefly asked about Nebula, who will be appearing in several new projects from Marvel Studios. She first teased the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder, in which the Guardians will appear:

“‘Thor’ is going to be so much fun. It’s going to be hilarious in that Taika brand of comedy that we all love.”

Gillan will reprise the role of Nebula again in the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. About this installment, which will be James Gunn’s last movie with the Guardians, she said:

“We’re kind of coming to the end of this chapter of the Guardians as we know it. So there’s a bittersweet nostalgic feeling settling in, for sure, as we film it. We’re closing out a chapter so you have to come and watch us close that out. It’s going to be amazing and sad.”

In her new movie Dual, she plays Sarah, a clinically depressed character with a terminal disease who creates a clone of herself, also played by Gillan, so that her family and friends don’t miss her when she’s gone. The plot thickens when Sarah makes a miraculous recovery and has to face off against her clone, since the government dictates there can only be one Sarah around.

Playing the same character with different personalities is something Gillan already did in Avengers: Endgame with Nebula. However, the actress does not see many similarities between the two characters:

“I would say that Nebula’s pretty different from these characters. I mean, Nebula’s part robot, but I don’t really see her as very robotic. I would say she’s more kind of affected by her upbringing with Thanos and her sister than any part of her that’s robotic.”

Dual opens in North American theaters on Friday, April 15. Thor: Love and Thunder is currently scheduled to debut on July 8, 2022 (a trailer should be coming in the next few days), while the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is coming to Disney Plus this Christmas. Finally, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be theatrically released on May 5, 2023.
