‘Stranger Things’ Locks 2022 Release with First Teaser

Stranger Things 4

The Upside Down isn’t done with viewers yet. Stranger Things unleashes its fourth season in 2022.

Yes, we pretty much knew that already, as Season 4 wraps filming this month, but now it’s official. The fourth season’s first teaser trailer works as a retrospective of sorts which culminates with new shots that help set the mood for new adventures:

In a way, Netflix is saying: here’s a little something to tide you over until next year, and if you haven’t watched our biggest series ever already, what are you waiting for? Stranger Things is a fun summer watch (or rewatch), so this little marketing push makes a lot of sense.

Little more is known about the plot at this point, but David Harbour, who plays the dead-but-not-really Hawkins Police Department chief Jim Hopper, has been speaking about Season 4 quite openly for months now:

“[Stranger Things 4] is really my favourite season… I just love it. The scripts always get better. [The Duffer Brothers], they started out, and season 1 is so tight and good and intimate in a certain way. And these guys go in different directions, of which the fans have multiple takes on, but I will say, the writing continues to be of its particular, specific genre. Whatever they’re doing, each season is just extraordinary. And this [time] again, we top it. Like I feel, it’s a big, beautiful season. I can’t wait for people to see it.”

The Duffer Brothers, who are still running the show, also claimed last year that the COVID-19 pandemic had put things into perspective for them — the show won’t end with its fourth season, an option which had been seriously considered in the past. Still, they already know when and how it will end. Hopefully, the series won’t go on for too long, as it feels like the “1980s nostalgia craze” has begun to die down both in TV and cinema.
