‘Birds of Prey’: Ewan McGregor to Play Black Mask
Ewan McGregor is set to portray the villain in Birds of Prey, DC’s R-rated, all-female team-up movie.
The Wrap reports that McGregor is involved with final discussions to portray Black Mask, a mob boss in the Batman lore who wears a mask made from a gravestone. Before becoming a supervillain, Roman Sionis killed his parents to inherit their company, which subsequently went under after he proved to be a poor businessman and was bought out by Wayne Enterprises. After becoming Black Mask, the gangster seeks revenge against Bruce Wayne, blaming him for his own failures. With Batman missing from Gotham City at the time that Birds of Prey takes place, Black Mask’s mob is able to rise to power in the Dark Knight’s absence.
Aside from McGregor, the cast of the film will be made up of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn (reprising her role from Suicide Squad), Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as the Huntress, and Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya. The only major role that still needs to be cast is Cassandra Cain, who is being portrayed as a girl in her early teenage years in this adaptation.
Birds of Prey will be released on February 7, 2020.
