‘A Simple Favor’ Sequel A Go At Lionsgate, Amazon MGM Studios; Paul Feig, Anna Kendrick, Blake Lively Returning

A Simple Favor

Amazon MGM Studios and Lionsgate have announced the green light on the sequel to 2018’s dark comedy A Simple Favor, with the entire cast and crew returning, The Hollywood Reporter says.

Filming is set to start this spring, with Paul Feig directing once again and the main cast from the previous installment set to come back, including Anna Kendrick, Blake Lively, Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Joshua Satine, Ian Ho, and Kelly McCormack. Jessica Sharzer is scripting once again, with Feig and Laeta Kalogridis also pitching in this time around.

Here’s THR‘s quick synopsis:

A Simple Favor 2 sees Stephanie Smothers (Kendrick) and Emily Nelson (Lively) heading to the island of Capri for Emily’s lavish wedding. The itinerary for the destination nuptials between Emily and a wealthy Italian businessman is set to include murder and betrayal.

No release date has been set. However, the pic is set to premiere on Prime Video.

Feig has been making some interesting career choices in recent years. A Simple Favor was well received, but he followed it up with 2019’s Last Christmas, which wasn’t as welcomed by critics, though audiences seemed to enjoy it enough to help it gross over $120M on a $25M budget. In 2022, though, Feig took on the bizarre assignment of directing the kids’ movie The School for Good and Evil for Netflix. It’s an interesting move now to go back to A Simple Favor, especially after Last Christmas was technically a success.
