Lily James To Star As Bumble Founder Whitney Wolfe Herd In New Movie For 20th
Lily James is set to star in and produce a new pic for 20th Century Studios about Whitney Wolfe Herd, founder of the online dating app Bumble, Deadline is reporting. Filming will begin this year.
Rachel Lee Goldenberg is directing after co-writing the script with Bill Parker and Kim Caramele. The story is inspired by Wolfe Herd’s life story, though specifics remain under wraps. She co-founded the dating app Tinder in 2014 but ultimately left the company to start her own venture, Bumble, that year. She became one of the youngest self-made billionaires after Bumble went public in 2021. She left in 2023 leaving behind a massively profitable business that continues to thrive.
The project is currently in pre-production, with casting of other major roles underway. 20th hopes to release it next year. In addition to 20th Century, Ethea Entertainment produces the project. Gala Gordon is an EP, and Sarah Shepard oversees it for 20th.
Lily James can currently be seen in A24’s The Iron Claw, alongside Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White. Her two upcoming projects are Greedy People, which debuted at Sundance earlier this year, and David Mackenzie’s Relay. Past star vehicles for her include the Hulu series Pam & Tommy, in which she starred as Pamela Anderson (and was nominated for an Emmy for it), and the 2018 sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. Her breakout hit was 2016’s Baby Driver with Ansel Elgort.
Miguel Fernández is a Spanish student that has movies as his second passion in life. His favorite movie of all time is The Lord of the Rings, but he is also a huge Star Wars fan. However, fantasy movies are not his only cup of tea, as authors like Scorsese, Fincher, Kubrick or Hitchcock have been an obsession for him since he started to understand the language of filmmaking. He is that guy who will watch a black and white movie, just because it is in black and white.
