‘How I Met Your Father’ Adds Chris Lowell
The upcoming Hulu spin-off series How I Met Your Father has cast one of the male leads.
According to Deadline, Chris Lowell will play Jesse, “who is smart, with a bit of an edge and cynical about love. He’s an aspiring musician who works as an Uber driver to make ends meet and lives with his best friend Tom.” He will be a part of the gang, led by Hilary Duff’s Sophie. Additionally, Deadline has listed the series in their 2020-21 Hulu Pilots & Series Orders rundown as being ordered straight-to-series and having 10 episodes. This is a significant reduction from the 20+ episodes each season of How I Met Your Mother had and is one of the unfortunate consequences of the streaming era.
Chris Lowell had a significant role in Emerald Fennell’s Oscar winner Promising Young Woman (2020), and is also familiar to television, as he had a big part in the Netflix hit series G.L.O.W.
How I Met Your Father was created by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger (who will be the writers of the series too). Hilary Duff is a producer as well as the lead, and the creators of the original series, Craig Thomas and Carter Bays will executive produce the spin-off too. Work for the series is already underway, and Hilary Duff even posted last month a look at a corner of his copy of one of the scripts, so filming will probably begin in the next few months.

The show will follow Sophie as she tells her son the story of how she met his father, and will flashback to the year 2021, when the story starts, much like the 2005 original did.
