Portions Of ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ Leaked To HBO Max Following ‘Tom And Jerry’ Mishap

Justice League
Fans wanted Warner Bros. to release the Snyder Cut of Justice League… But not like this.

Per The Wrap, the fan-demanded director’s cut of Justice League from Zack Snyder briefly appeared on HBO Max ten days before it was supposed to. This is due to some error with playing the 2021 Tom and Jerry movie on the service, as for whatever reason the PG family film glitched out and started playing the R-rated superhero epic instead. This appears to be due to some kind of directory error, where the HBO Max server accidentally linked people up to the wrong movie (as Zack Snyder’s Justice League is finished and ready to launch).

Thankfully, it does not appear that the full film has leaked out to the internet at the current time (since the movie is four hours and it was only online for about two), but it seems possible that HBO Max could expedite the release of the movie by a few days to prevent further leaks. The film’s release date is currently scheduled for March 18, nearly four years to the day that Snyder’s daughter Autumn passed away. He left the original production at that point in time; the film is dedicated to her memory.

The movie was functionally remade and completed by writer-director Joss Whedon on a rushed schedule to fit the November 17, 2017 release date, drastically altering the tone of the film and excising multiple subplots. Thankfully, a workprint of Snyder’s movie was preserved by Snyder himself, who teased his version through Vero; fan pressure and a dedicated campaign eventually led to the completion and release of the original version of the film. While some have resorted to a conspiracy theory that HBO Max, who funded the project, leaked Zack Snyder’s Justice League themselves, such a possibility appears unlikely given their $70M investment toward finishing the original version.

HBO Max first announced the movie as a premiere original offering to entice subscribers to the service, and while that has seemingly taken a backseat to HBO’s same-day release strategy with Warner Bros. movies, the movie is getting a red carpet rollout for its arrival on the streaming service later this month, given the series of advertisements arriving in the past month or so. The movie is still set to be a major draw to the service, along with other HBO platforms around the world, so it stands to reason that they want to make the most money out of this as possible. For now, we can only hope that fans can avoid spoilers from now until the release date.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League will release on HBO Max on March 18, 2021. In addition, Snyder claims that he’s making a black-and-white edit of the movie, and he has plans to release the finished movie in IMAX theaters if possible.
