Marvel Studios Nabs a Set of Directors for ‘Ms. Marvel’
She-Hulk is not the only heroine readying up for action…
Following the news of Tatiana Maslany joining the Disney Plus side of the MCU as fan-favorite heroine She-Hulk, THR has reported that Marvel Studios’ Ms. Marvel is also well on its way to the small screen.
Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who directed the surprisingly solid Bad Boys for Life, will be joining the series as directors, along with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, a two-time Oscar winner in the documentary short category, and Meera Menon, who has previously helmed episodes of The Walking Dead, The Punisher, and Titans.
With Kamala Khan being the first onscreen Muslim hero and also a Pakistani American, the folks at Marvel Studios have been trying to put together a diverse creative team who can crack the source material in a genuine way. El Arbi and Fallah are also attached to Beverly Hills Cop 4 as well as the Muslim family drama Rebel. Obaid-Chinoy took home oscars for 2015’s A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness and 2012’s Saving Face. Menon is mostly known for her 2013 indie comedy Farah Goes Bang and the 2016 Sundance feature Equity.
Bisha K. Ali (Sex Education, Four Weddings and a Funeral) is the head writer for the series. Rumor has it Kamala has already been cast, so an official announcement following this bit of news might be imminent.
