‘The Batman’ Resumes Production Again

The Batman

The reboot had halted production after Robert Pattinson tested positive for coronavirus.

Now, Variety is reporting that the actor has been given the green light to go back to set after he, and several other crew and cast members who had been in close contact with him, had been quarantined. Cameras stopped rolling, but construction on several sets for the film continued as normal. This was confirmed by a spokesperson from WB to Variety.

The Batman debuted its first trailer back in August, at the online event DC FanDome. There, director Matt Reeves revealed that, before the pandemic forced them to shut down, only 25% of the film had been shot.

Pattinson’s positive result has been the biggest example of what can happen to Hollywood under the new norm. While we still don’t know how he got the virus, or what safety procedures were broken, if any, this will be a case to be studied by many studios moving forward. It’s been only two weeks since production stopped, so it is highly unlikely this will affect the project’s current release date, in October of next year. Let’s hope that, from now on, things don’t get messy again and everyone stays safe and healthy.

Other high-profile projects like Matrix 4 and Jurassic World: Dominion, plus The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, have already been filming for a while and without any problems thus far.

The Batman is being directed by Matt Reeves from a script written by himself and Mattson Tomlin. It stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, with Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Jon Turturro as Carmine Falcone, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, among others. It will be released on October 1, 2021, if everything goes according to plan.
