Tatiana Maslany Cast as She-Hulk for the Disney Plus Show

The good news is that another project for Disney+ is moving forward. The bad news is that we still don’t know when we’ll get to see the first Marvel Disney+ show, although apparently we could still be getting WandaVision later this year.

Deadline is exclusively reporting that Emmy-winning actress Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) has been tapped to play the lead role in Marvel’s upcoming live-action TV show, She-Hulk. She will be bringing Jennifer Walters to life, an attorney who is also Bruce Banner’s cousin and got similar powers to Hulk’s after a blood transfusion from her cousin. Unlike him, she is still able to maintain Walters’ personality when she hulks out.

The live-action series was also on the news this week, as Deadline reported that Jessica Gao, from Rick and Morty, had been chosen to be the showrunner. It is unknown at this point when production will begin, but under normal circumstances we shouldn’t be more than four or five months away from that moment. In the next few months we will probably be hearing about many more casting announcements, before and once production has begun.

Maslany has been nominated for three Emmy awards, of which she won one, and also one Golden Globe, for playing the lead role in BBC America’s Orphan Black, which ran from 2013 to 2017. She also appeared in Karyn Kusama’s Destroyer and HBO’s Perry Mason.

Disney Plus has several Marvel live-action TV productions coming up, including: WandaVision, which might be coming out in December; The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which was supposed to debut in August but got delayed due to the show not being able to finish production; Loki, which has been filming for a while and was supposed to hit early next year; and Hawkeye, which could be on the verge of filming. Also, last year it was announced that Marvel Studios would be developing She-Hulk, as well as Ms. Marvel and Moon Knight. We still know nothing about these last two.
