Sienna Miller and Sam Worthington Join Kevin Costner’s Passion Western Project ‘Horizon’
20 years later, Kevin Costner will be behind the camera again, and he’s bringing an all-star cast with him, starting with Sienna Miller and Sam Worthington.
The two actors are confirmed to star in the upcoming Horizon, Kevin Costner’s passion western project. According to Deadline, it will be the first of a trilogy. Costner himself is directing, co-writing, producing (via his Territory Pictures banner), and financing. The movie is in the casting process right now, and will start filming on August 29 in Utah. Stranger Things alum Jamie Campbell Bower (who portrayed Vecna in the Netflix hit series) is also part of the ensemble, the actor announced on The Tonight Show earlier this month.
Via Deadline, here is the basic plot synopsis for Horizon:
“‘Horizon’ chronicles a multi-faceted, 15-year span of pre- and post-Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West. Experienced through the eyes of many, the epic journey is fraught with peril and intrigue from the constant onslaught of natural elements to the interactions with the Indigenous peoples who lived on the land and the determination and at many times ruthlessness of those who sought to settle it.”
Worthington confirmed that he will be joining the cast with the following statement:
“I am very excited and humbled to go on this incredible and important journey with Kevin, who is one of the industry’s finest and inspiring storytellers.”
Miller also released the following statement:
“I am so excited to go on this epic journey with such a legendary actor and director at the helm. The story is riveting. I am very honored to be a part of it.”
Costner, who in the last few years has started acting in television in his critically acclaimed Yellowstone, has not directed a movie since 2003’s Open Range. Horizon will be his fourth directorial effort, with the first one being Dances With Wolves in 1990, a movie that not only won Best Picture but also gave him a Best Director Academy Award.
Sienna Miller was most recently seen in David E. Kelly’s Anatomy of a Scandal, for Netflix, and just wrapped filming for My Mother’s Wedding, Kristin Scott Thomas’ feature directorial debut. Worthington will next be seen in Avatar: The Way of Water. He last appeared on this year’s critically acclaimed series Under the Banner of Heaven for FX.
With Horizon starting production in just a couple of weeks, the movie could be ready for a late 2023 release.
