‘Werewolf by Night’ Special Reportedly Introducing Laura Donnelly as Elsa Bloodstone

The upcoming Marvel Studios Halloween special, tentatively titled Werewolf by Night, could be introducing yet another character into the MCU in Elsa Bloodstone.

According to a report from The Cosmic Circus, Laura Donnelly (The Nevers), who was reported to be joining the project earlier this year, will be playing the monster huntress. While this isn’t one of the major Hollywood trades, the site has been right about some stuff in the past regarding Disney Plus projects, so we’ll take their word for it. The project is currently in production and will be directed by none other than Michael Giacchino. Bloodstone was rumored a few months ago to also be a part of the upcoming Blade movie, which could go into production later this year.

Marvel Studios hasn’t said a word yet about the Halloween Special, but they could be announcing it soon. It is scheduled to hit Disney Plus this October, a couple of months before Marvel’s other television special for the streamer, the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which James Gunn is directing at this very moment.

Gael García Bernal will star as the Werewolf by Night, but it’s unknown at this point whether that will be the final title of the project — the working title is Buzzcut. Due to the characters’ connections in the comics, it’s been speculated for a while that Bernal’s character could be introduced in Moon Knight. However, given the way episode 4 ended, and how much the crew has insisted the show isn’t really tied to the overall MCU, it’s unlikely he will appear.

For the uninitiated, Elsa Bloodstone is a monster huntress who pretty much inherited all of her father’s powers of superhuman strength, speed, durability, and endurance. She also possesses a regeneration factor and immunity against vampire bites. She first appeared in the 2001 Bloodstone comic-book miniseries, which was written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning.

With Bloodstone’s introduction, and the Werewolf by Night and Blade getting their own projects shortly after Moon Knight, it’s been speculated for a while that Marvel could be building towards a Midnight Sons project of sorts. At this point, it’s unclear in which direction the MCU is heading, but answers could be coming soon. After the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and maybe during Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con panel (if that even happens), we could get a lot of answers about the cinematic universe’s future.
