‘Ms. Marvel’ Releases New Image, Kamala Khan’s Co-Creator Was Very Involved in the Series

Even before Moon Knight premieres half of its episodes, the marketing campaign for Ms. Marvel is picking up some steam.

As part of the latest issue of Empire Magazine, the new series has released a brand-new still from the show (see above). While the picture could have very well been from the trailer, as it doesn’t look particularly new, it does signal that the marketing department of Marvel Studios is not slowing down.

In addition to the picture, the magazine also had the chance to sit with Kamala Khan’s comic-book co-creator, Sana Amanat, who, according to Empire, was “heavily involved” in the series. She also attended Iman Vellani’s Zoom audition, and to Amanat, Vellani was the clear choice from the beginning:

“She showed me every corner of her room, and it was covered with Avengers. Then she said, ‘Oh wait, I’m not done’, opened up her closet, and there was more Marvel everywhere.”

That enthusiasm was key, as Kamala Khan is the ultimate nerd, even more than Spider-Man. She isn’t the traditional superhero and is nothing like her idol, Captain Marvel. In Amanat’s own words:

“She’s not as slick and suave as some superheroes. It’s not like when Captain America throws his shield and it comes back. She’s all over the place. I’m excited for people to get to know her.”

As a fun fact, Amanat also revealed that Vellani gave her notes on basically every Marvel movie:

“She gave me a list of feedback on every single Marvel movie. Kevin Feige is like her Carol Danvers.”

This was part of the Ms. Marvel story from the newest issue of Empire Magazine, which will hit stores on Thursday, April 14. It’s possible the rest will be released online in the next few days. The show will hit Disney Plus on June 8, so stay tuned for more news as that day approaches. Kamala Khan will then be part of The Marvels, which is being released next February in theaters. It’s currently unknown whether Brie Larson will make a cameo in the upcoming series.

Meanwhile, you may enjoy Moon Knight, which is an entirely different flavor of a show. New episodes are streaming every Wednesday.
