Ezra Miller Faces Consequences at Warner Bros. After Recent Arrest

Justice League

Ezra Miller ran into some trouble, and now the studio has decided to halt their future collaborations.

According to a report from Rolling Stone Magazine, Warner Bros. may be seeking punishment for Ezra Miller following the actor’s recent arrest. According to the magazine’s findings, the production of The Flash, which wrapped earlier this year, was severely affected by the actor’s behavior. From their report:

One insider says Miller had “frequent meltdowns” during production last year on The Flash. While the insider stresses there was no yelling or violent outbursts, they described Miller as “losing it.” “Ezra would get a thought in [their] head and say, ‘I don’t know what I’m doing,’” the insider tells Rolling Stone.

According to the new report, Warner Bros. executives met to discuss how to move forward with their relationship with Miller. They decided to pause development on any future project that would have involved the actor. That would include a hypothetical sequel to The Flash, and possibly the other two Fantastic Beasts movies that J.K. Rowling said a few years ago would be happening.

On March 28, Miller was arrested in Hawaii for disorderly conduct and harassment. A couple of days later, it came out that, on the 29th, a couple from Hawaii had filed a restraining order against Miller after the actor broke into their bedroom and threatened them, saying “I will bury [sic] you and your slut wife.” Allegedly, Miller also stole the woman’s passport and the man’s wallet. This is hardly the first time something like this has happened.

In April 2020, when the world was in full lockdown after the first COVID-19 outburst, Miller was caught on tape grabbing a woman by the neck in a bar in Iceland. No arrest was made, and the actor did not receive any punishment from the studio, despite the fact that Fantastic Beasts 3 had not started shooting yet (it was supposed to start in mid-March, but was halted due to health concerns).

It’s unclear at this point how this all will be resolved. It’s very unlikely Miller will be working for WB again, but the studio can’t catch a breath with the projects Miller is involved in. The Fantastic Beasts movies have already suffered a lot of backlash due to Johnny Depp, J.K. Rowling, and a decreasing amount of interest that is reflected in box office numbers. The Secrets of Dumbledore is not tracking really well, and the reviews are not helping so far. It’s very possible this will be the last movie from the Wizarding World, at least for now.

As far as The Flash goes, the multiverse storyline that will be explored there does give the studio a lot of freedom when it comes to recasting the role. They also have an entire year to do some reshoots and change the ending so that it adjusts to their goals. Speaking of The Flash, we must warn our readers that most of the movie’s plot has leaked online following last week’s first test screening, so be careful if you want to avoid spoilers.

The Flash will open June 23, 2023. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is releasing on April 15.
