‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Shares New Interviews and Posters, Tickets Now on Sale

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness releases one month from today. The highly anticipated Marvel sequel, which is supposed to cap off the Multiverse story thread that started in WandaVision, has released a batch of new posters to announce they are putting tickets on sale now.

These posters market each of the major premium systems used in theaters worldwide for big blockbuster releases. It’s become a tradition to have wildly different posters dedicated to systems such as IMAX or RealD 3D, and the Doctor Strange sequel is no exception. Check out all of them below:

On top of those, here’s the final official poster for the movie:

You can also head over to Fandango to read through a new, super-sized interview with legendary director Sam Raimi after you pick up your tickets, though we’ll be sharing some of the most interesting bits below, starting with the filmmaker’s confession that he had only seen four or five MCU movies before joining the sequel:

I had seen Iron Man, the first Avengers, Black Panther and Doctor Strange, and little clips of the other movies. They’ve made 28 movies. I’ve only really seen four or five, so I’ll say not that familiar. That’s part one. By the way, I loved what I saw, but not that familiar. But part two is I was a giant fan of the Marvel comic books of the ’70s and ’80s and into the ’90s. So, I was super familiar with the characters, and their stories, and their interactions. That’s what the Marvel movies are based on. So that’s my answer.

On the addition of America Chavez and Xochitl Gómez’s performance:

Well, she adds an exciting spirit of youth. She’s a newcomer to her powers and to our world. She actually comes from another universe. I think she brings a sense of lightness and youth. Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange can be a very egotistical and stuffy character, a know-it-all. She just flies in the face of that. She doesn’t really have respect for him originally. She sees right through the fronts that he puts up. She’s much more down to earth and one of us, and she doesn’t take his attitude. I don’t think he likes that at first. So, she creates a contrast.

He leaves the door open for a Bruce Campbell cameo, too:

I can’t answer that question either. I’m not allowed to.

Raimi also goes on to explain a bit of the collaborative process with Marvel Studios and whether he’d like to return to the MCU and maybe team up with Tobey Maguire again. The full interview is excellent and well worth a read if you have the time.

Expectations are through the roof for the movie, and there’s every reason for that. Every piece of marketing we’ve seen so far promises the movie will be unlike anything else Marvel (or pretty much anyone) has ever done. And as usual with Marvel movies, we’ve probably seen only the tip of the iceberg. Rumors of many surprises and fun cameos coming our way have been circulating for months, and every day a new name is added to the list. The last trailer, which was released during the Super Bowl, already teased one of the big appearances. If they were willing to give that away in the marketing, one can only imagine what they have in store for fans.

But even though the big selling point for this movie will be the many cameos for most people, the story, which Marvel hasn’t really delved into in the trailers, promises to take Dr. Strange into a wild ride to say the least. He will be meeting a young apprentice in America Chavez, played by Xochitl Gómez, teaming up with Wong again (who is understandably angry at him after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home), coming across a very changed Mordo, and seeing Rachel McAdams’ Dr. Christine Palmer again. The story will be the continuation of the season finale of Loki and the ending of No Way Home, but from the trailers alone, it will also have ties to WandaVision, the animated series What If…? and a few others (possibly The Marvels and perhaps other projects to come).

Doctor Strange himself, Benedict Cumberbatch, told Total Film last month the following about the movie:

“It’s going to be a completely mind-bending, thrilling ride. It really is. The title speaks for the experience of watching it, I believe, and certainly of making it. There was a lot of madness, a lot of multiverse, and a lot of Doctor Strange.”

He also gave a similar quote to Empire Magazine:

“It’s a big, big movie. It’s going to be an absolute riot. And if it brings off the level of ambition it’s got, we’re going to have a success on the level of Spidey. There you go, I’ll put my flag in the sand.”

While it isn’t much, it certainly confirms everything we’re hoping the movie to be. The runtime was revealed over the weekend to be 2 hours and 6 minutes, including credits, making it the shortest of Marvel’s “more ambitious” movies like Civil War, Infinity War, Endgame, or even No Way Home. So, the question now is: can they deliver a great movie in that runtime that is as crazy and over-populated as it’s rumored to be?

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

From the Empire Magazine coverage of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we know that the scene in the last trailer featuring Patrick Stewart’s earlobe is basically Strange in front of the Illuminati. Who will be a part of that group, we don’t know yet… though we may have some theories. Producer Richie Palmer told Empire not to get too attached to a particular theory, as the multiverse is a vast place with infinite copies of each character. So there may be more to what we’re seeing in the trailer, and we’ll have to wait until the movie arrives:

“I’ll quote the first X-Men movie and say, ‘Are you sure you saw what you saw?’. There are infinite versions of these characters, and just because you may have heard something familiar doesn’t mean it’s someone you have seen before.”

About the Illuminati, and if Tony Stark will be a member of the group, he then added:

“As you saw in Spider-Man: No Way Home, some rumors ended up being true, some did not. I would love to see Tony again, but some rumours are just rumours. I will say that I love the Illuminati. But if we ever introduce the Illuminati in the future, it might be more MCU-driven and have some more ties to our characters in the MCU, versus just replicating what’s in the comics.”

Marvel Studios has also announced on social media they are opening a fan art contest so that anyone can submit their Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness-inspired artwork and have a chance at winning two tickets for the world premiere:

There are already some jaw-dropping art pieces in the replies that we hope are turned into posters soon. If nothing else, the artwork for this movie has been outstanding. Most of the posters released thus far have been some of the best Marvel has ever done.

Lastly, here’s a minute-long TV spot which celebrates tickets going on sale and eases the final wait ahead:

What about you? Have you already grabbed your tickets for the opening weekend? Make sure you do, because they are probably going to disappear fast, much like they did for No Way Home last December. And Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness promises to be ten times as ambitious, though it doesn’t have the super wide appeal that Zendaya and Tom Holland brought to their Spider-Man movie.
