Apple TV Plus Recruits Harrison Ford for Upcoming Comedy ‘Shrinking’
Apple TV Plus has finally done it. Harrison Ford is coming to high-profile television at 79 years old.
Back in October, the streamer ordered Shrinking, a comedy starring, written, and executive produced by Jason Segel, in collaboration with Ted Lasso producers Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein. Six months later, the project is still alive, and has found one of its lead actors — Harrison Ford, who wrapped production on his fifth and final installment as Indiana Jones earlier this year, has signed on to play Segel’s therapist.
Apple’s description of the series back in October read as follows:
“Shrinking” follows a grieving therapist (played by Segel) who starts to break the rules and tell his clients exactly what he thinks. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge, tumultuous changes to people’s lives … including his own.
Now, from The Hollywood Reporter:
Ford will play Dr. Phil Rhodes, a down to earth and sharp “blue collar shrink” and pioneer in cognitive behavioral therapy. He shares a practice with two of his protégés, Jimmy (Segel) and Gaby, and has recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s, which forces him out of his comfort zone as he deals with intrusive friends, his estranged family, and his legacy.
Harrison Ford’s last movie was The Call of the Wild, which feels like it came out a thousand years ago. His IMDb page doesn’t include more future projects beyond Indiana Jones 5 and Shrinking. Production will most likely begin this year. No director has been attached to the project yet. Segel, Lawrence, and Goldstein will all be credited as writers on the series.
This will be Ford’s first-ever role as a series regular, after he did a few guest-starring appearances several decades ago, in shows like The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles and Gunsmoke.
Miguel Fernández is a Spanish student that has movies as his second passion in life. His favorite movie of all time is The Lord of the Rings, but he is also a huge Star Wars fan. However, fantasy movies are not his only cup of tea, as authors like Scorsese, Fincher, Kubrick or Hitchcock have been an obsession for him since he started to understand the language of filmmaking. He is that guy who will watch a black and white movie, just because it is in black and white.
