David Lynch Cast in Steven Spielberg’s ‘The Fabelmans’

Even though the movie is already in post-production, the star-studded movie keeps expanding its cast, with David Lynch being the latest addition.

Variety is reporting that David Lynch is back to acting this year, as he has joined the cast of Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans. This comes out after principal photography has wrapped on the movie and post-production is deep underway. A Thanksgiving 2022 release date is to be expected.

Lynch, who is mostly known for directing movies like Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet, or The Elephant Man, as well as creating the show Twin Peaks, has also done some acting throughout his career. He played FBI agent Gordon Cole in all Twin Peaks shows and the prequel movie, and also had a few supporting roles in movies like Lucky, with Harry Dean Stanton, as well as voice acting gigs here and there.

The Fabelmans is perhaps Steven Spielberg’s most personal movie to date, so much so that he decided to take on co-writing duties, along with his long-time collaborator Tony Kushner (West Side Story). The cast includes Michelle Williams (playing a character inspired by Spielberg’s mother), Paul Dano (playing a character inspired by Spielberg’s father), Seth Rogen (playing a character inspired by Spielberg’s favorite uncle growing up), Gabriel LaBelle (playing Sammy, a character inspired by a young Spielberg), Julia Butters (playing a character inspired by Spielberg’s sister), and now David Lynch. We have no character details for Lynch. John Williams, another long-time friend of Spielberg’s, is expected to write the score.

Spielberg is now deep into the Oscar campaign for his West Side Story remake, which is expected to receive a Best Picture nomination. A Best Director nomination is not out of the question either. He will surely be back in the same conversation next year with The Fabelmans, and he will presumably be flexing his muscles against another Oscars favorite, Martin Scorsese, who is expected to premiere Killers of the Flower Moon later this year.
