‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ Unveils (Partial) Character Posters

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is ramping up its marketing even though we’re still seven months away from the release date on Prime Video.

We had learned about the long-gestating series’ title only two weeks ago, and now Amazon is wasting no time and starting to rev up the Middle-earth hype machine. The show’s official Twitter account started dropping posters yesterday like crazy, and you can check all of them out below (click to enlarge):

Of course, speculation as to the characters’ identities is already running rampant, with the folks over at the show’s subreddit doing some impressive detective work. We won’t spoil anything here, but at least a couple of those are pretty easy guesses for fans deep into Middle-earth lore.

The Rings of Power unites all the major stories of Middle-earth’s Second Age: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Númenor, and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men. Until now, audiences have only seen on-screen the story of the One Ring, but Tolkien’s fantasy world was much bigger and contained many more epic stories. If these teaser posters are any indication, Amazon’s series will be a sprawling epic featuring characters from every corner of Middle-earth, which is what showrunners J.D. Payne & Patrick McKay have been promising for a while now.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will debut its first episode on Amazon Prime Video on September 2, 2022. J.A. Bayona (A Monster Calls, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) is directing the first two episodes and serving as executive producer.
