Mena Massoud Talks ‘Aladdin’ Sequel

Aladdin Sequel

Yesterday, Aladdin star Mena Massoud sat down with Screen Rant to discuss his new movie, Lamya’s Poem. Naturally, talk turned to that other Genie in the room — the Aladdin sequel, and Massoud was only happy to offer an update.

“They’re working on it,” he told Screen Rant, “They’re trying to make it happen. That’s really all I know. As you know, usually actors are the last piece of the puzzle, so the studio has got a lot to worry about before they start thinking about the actors.”

So it sounds like things haven’t, to Massoud’s knowledge at least, progressed since early 2020, when it was first reported that a sequel was in development with John Gatins and Andrea Berloff attached to write the script, plus Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich returning as producers. Director Guy Ritchie is also hoped to return, although he’s keeping busy next year with Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which he’ll start shooting after Operation Fortune reaches the finish line.

For his part, Massoud is more than happy to return:

“Obviously, I would hope that all of us come back and Naomi, Will, and I all come back and the rest of the cast, Marwan, Navid, Nasim, everybody. But right now, as far as I know, they’re just working on the script and trying to make it happen.”

Hopefully, the script is coming along well and Mena Massoud and the rest of the cast will hear more soon. I would love to go on another adventure in Agrabah and its surroundings with this cast.

During the interview, Massoud also touched on those Ezra Bridger rumors that have been swirling around social media for a while now. You can hear what he had to say about that role over on our sister site Star Wars News Net.

Aladdin (2019) is now streaming on Disney Plus.
