Phoebe Waller-Bridge Exits ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ Series, Donald Glover Still on Board
Phoebe Waller-Bridge has exited the series adaptation of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, with Donald Glover still attached to it.
From The Hollywood Reporter, it looks like there were creative disagreements between the two actors from Solo: A Star Wars Story. The project was announced back in February, and with Glover still on board, the executives are now looking to recast the female lead role and meet the 2022 release date. The series will debut on Amazon’s Prime Video service.
According to the story, the split was amicable on both ends. The writing team is furiously hitting the keyboard so that the series can start shooting in early 2022. At the same time, these two are also some of the most prolific and busy workers in Hollywood right now, both in front of and behind the camera.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge is now wrapping production on the fourth season of Killing Eve, which she executive produced. She’s also been filming Indiana Jones 5, and will receive a screenwriting credit for the upcoming No Time To Die (which will seemingly come out in early October after all). She broke into the big picture with her show Fleabag, a series highly decorated at the Emmys. On the other hand, Glover has recently wrapped production on Atlanta Season 3 (Season 2 came out in spring 2018), which will arrive in early 2022, and is currently shooting Season 4 as well. He wrote all the episodes of both of these seasons.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith is a 2005 movie directed by Doug Liman and starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as a married couple with a secret life — both spouses are spies without the other one knowing about it. Francesca Sloane (Atlanta) will be credited as co-creator, showrunner, and executive producer on the series adaptation.
Miguel Fernández is a Spanish student that has movies as his second passion in life. His favorite movie of all time is The Lord of the Rings, but he is also a huge Star Wars fan. However, fantasy movies are not his only cup of tea, as authors like Scorsese, Fincher, Kubrick or Hitchcock have been an obsession for him since he started to understand the language of filmmaking. He is that guy who will watch a black and white movie, just because it is in black and white.
