‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Reportedly Reuniting Previous ‘Spider-Man’ Visual Effects Teams With ‘Avengers’ Alumni

Spider-Man
Spider-Man: No Way Home appears to be going all-out with its rumored Multiverse story, and that apparently extends to the people behind the camera. The visual effects team on the movie will reportedly combine the talent behind the MCU movies with the talent behind the previous two Spider-Man film continuities and the last two Avengers movies.

According to Murphy’s Multiverse, their sources have been able to confirm that visual effects teams that worked on all three live-action Spider-Man franchises will be crossing over with the visual effects supervisors that worked on Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, both of which incidentally featured Spider-Man. The former goes on to continue speculation that the movie will be a crossover (which Alfred Molina more or less confirmed), while the latter suggests that No Way Home will end up being a movie on the scale much larger than any Spider-Man movie before or since. The returning VFX artists will likely be beneficial not just for the returning characters, but to apply their general skills and knowledge to the latest iteration of the franchise.

Spider-Man: No Way Home reunites director Jon Watts with writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The film’s confirmed cast includes Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Stephen Strange, Zendaya Coleman as Michelle “MJ” Jones, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Marisa Tomei as May Parker, and Tony Revolori as Eugene “Flash” Thompson. The film also features Alfred Molina as Otto Octavius/Doctor Octopus and Jamie Foxx as Max Dillon/Electro, revisiting their roles from previous Spider-Man films.

Rumored to return are a gauntlet of characters from the Sam Raimi and Marc Webb-directed films, including Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s versions of Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin, Thomas Haden Church as Flint Marko/Sandman. (There are reportedly enough supervillains in this movie that it’s widely suspected that this movie will feature the first cinematic Sinister Six showdown.) In addition, it is believed that Charlie Cox will be portraying a new interpretation of Matt Murdock after playing the character across Netflix’s Daredevil and The Defenders shows, although it has yet to be confirmed if he’ll be suiting up as a superhero or if he’ll just remain as a super-lawyer for the beleaguered Parker family.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to release on December 17, 2021. The future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe includes the films Black WidowShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, EternalsSpider-Man: No Way HomeThor: Love and Thunder, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever, The MarvelsGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Captain America 4, and reboots of the BladeDeadpoolFantastic Four, and X-Men franchises.
