Now, he’ll be reuniting with director and writer Joe Cornish for another spin at the world presented in the sci-fi action horror comedy.

Deadline reports that the sequel is moving forward, reuniting John Boyega reprising his role as Moses and Joe Cornish returning to direct. The original film concerned itself with a teenage street gang who find themselves allying with a nurse that they attempted to mug when a small-scale alien invasion attacks a block in South London. Following Boyega’s involvement with the Star Wars franchise, the movie has received a greater amount of exposure.

The role represents the first project for John Boyega after his Golden Globe win for his Best Supporting Actor role in Amazon’s Small Axe. He will be is producing the film alongside Joe Cornish, who is also producing and writing. Nina Park and James Wilson also join in producing duties. Boyega issued the following statement alongside the announcement:

It’s been a decade since Attack The Block was released and so much has changed since then. I’m excited to see this heightened story return to the streets of London. Moses has remained one of my favorite characters to play and bringing him back is a huge honor.

Likewise, Cornish was also enthusiastic about the chance to revisit this concept:

I’m thrilled we’re officially announcing our return to the world of Attack The Block on the tenth anniversary of the film’s release. I can’t wait to work alongside John again, bringing audiences an even bigger slice of inner-city alien action.

No release window has been set for the sequel. With any luck, the new Attack the Block project should get the attention that it deserves the first time around rather than years after the fact.
