Benedict Cumberbatch to Star in Colin Trevorrow’s New World War II Drama ‘War Magician’

Benedict Cumberbatch is joining yet another historical drama.

He did not have enough with The Imitation Game or The Current War, or even 1917. Deadline is reporting that the British actor, who is one of the busiest performers out there today, is joining the new movie by Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow. War Magician will be written by E. Nicholas Mariani, based on the book by David Fisher. From Deadline:

Pic is based on the wild story of Jasper Maskelyne, a British illusionist who used magic to defeat Erwin Rommel in World War II. Trevorrow’s take features an international “magic gang” from Africa, Europe and the Middle East who conspired with Maskelyne and a female military intelligence officer to defeat the Nazis.

Trevorrow just finished shooting the third Jurassic World installment, while Benedict Cumberbatch is currently filming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He will also appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which must be about to wrap principal photography (if it hasn’t yet). He can currently be seen showing off a Texan accent in the excellent The Mauritanian, which after some initial push, did not receive any love from the Academy.

This is the second post-Jurassic project Trevorrow has lined up to helm, with the first being an original exploration of the myth of Atlantis for Universal.

Gary Whitta and Richard Cordiner wrote earlier drafts of the script. The movie will be produced by Studiocanal, with Trevorrow also acting as an executive producer via his banner Metronome Films.
