‘The Flash’ Movie Casts Maribel Verdú as Barry Allen’s Mother

Maribel Verdu will play Nora Allen in The Flash

Several pieces of news have arrived in the last few hours concerning the upcoming The Flash movie.

The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Spanish actress Maribel Verdú has been cast to play the role of Barry Allen’s mom, Nora Allen. And that is not it, because apparently, Allen’s father will need to be recast, as Billy Crudup apparently is stepping out due to a scheduling conflict. The actor has already played the part in the theatrical version of Justice League, and will also be seen in next week’s re-do of that movie, Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Another actress that will be appearing in the new cut of Justice League, but did not show up in the original one, is Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Barry Allen’s love interest. The actress signed the deal to appear in the upcoming solo Flash movie earlier this week, which was one of the least surprising pieces of news we’ve had in the last few months.

According to THR, Nora Allen will be featured heavily in The Flash, which on the one hand is not surprising, since we know the movie will explore the Flashpoint storyline, which in the comics was an attempt by Barry Allen to change the timeline in which his mother was assassinated back when he was a child. On the other hand, it is nice to see that the movie will still be centered around the character of Flash despite the fact it’s going to feature a lot of caped heroes too. So far, we know that Barry Allen will encounter at least two different versions of Batman, played by Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck, and one version of Supergirl, played by Sasha Calle.

Maribel Verdú was born in Spain and is mostly known to international audiences. She played one of the three main roles in the excellent Y Tu Mamá También (2001) and also appeared in Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth (2006), both non-English language movies. She was by far the best part of the former and a standout in the latter.

The Flash will premiere in theaters on November 4, 2022. It will be directed by It‘s Andy Muschietti and will feature Ezra Miller reprising the title role, as well as his alter ego. Shooting will hopefully commence late spring-early summer.
