‘Peacemaker’ Series Will Arrive in January 2022

John Cena as Peacemaker

James Gunn’s Peacemaker prequel series will arrive in January 2022 on HBO Max.

The release date was confirmed by Casey Bloys, HBO and HBO Max’s content chief, in an interview with THR during which he revealed Peacemaker was one of the first projects he worked on.

I just started to get involved with the DC content in August [2020]. Peacemaker is one of the first shows I greenlit and one of the first shows coming out, in January 2022. It’s a great example of what HBO Max can do with DC content in that we’re producing at a level we haven’t seen DC content on TV do thus far.

The release date means that, at the moment, the series will come out just five months after The Suicide Squad, which is currently scheduled to release on August 6, 2021. It is unclear if the release date would be pushed back if The Suicide Squad was also to be delayed. Warner Bros. would likely prefer that their film came out before the spin-off series, but it’s unclear if releasing it before the film would spoil any of the story.

John Cena will be reprising his role as Peacemaker from The Suicide Squad and serves as executive producer on the series, while James Gunn is on board to direct. He will be joined by Chris Conrad and Danielle Brooks, who will play anti-hero Vigilante and a brand-new character called Leota Adebayo, respectively. Jennifer Holland, who starred in James Gunn’s Brightburn, and Steve Agee will also reprise their characters Emilia Harcourt and King Shark respectively from The Suicide Squad. Robert Patrick will play another character called Auggie Smith.
