DC And WB Games Montreal Finally Unveil ‘Gotham Knights’ Game

Gotham Knights
It’s been rumored for a long while, but DC have officially unveiled their new Batman game, which is a spiritual successor of the critically-acclaimed Arkham series. It’s actually not a standard Batman game at all, but Gotham Knights, a title focused on his various allies.

Gotham Knights has been long hinted at through a series of cryptic teases from WB Games, yet the studio behind the game, WB Montreal, has been ridiculously secretive about the project. DC’s panel began with the first trailer, followed by a gameplay demonstration. You can watch it below:

Gotham Knights is set after the apparent demise of Batman, with Bruce Wayne leaving the battle to his successors, including Robin, Batgirl, Red Hood, and Nightwing. Among the antagonists featured are Mr. Freeze and the Court of Owls (although it’s hinted that the overall mystery is much larger). It remains to be seen if Batman will secretly be alive and appear as an unlockable character, but if that happens, it likely won’t be until the end of the game; as it stands, having Batman front-and-center doesn’t seem to be the focus of the title. Check out the seven-plus-minute gameplay segment below:

The developers explained that they really wanted to shake up the status quo of Batman games, and as such, a title focused on his supporting cast was the best way to achieve that. The gameplay sequence shown emphasizes some co-op elements but plays closely to the Arkham titles. It appears that the game is also a soft-reboot of some kind, as Mr. Freeze had something resembling a happy ending in Arkham Knight, whereas he appears to be a standard supervillain here.

Gotham Knights is set to arrive in 2021. The game will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
