James Cameron Congratulates Marvel for ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Success

James Cameron Avengers
Director James Cameron is many things, but being known for being humble is not one of them. So it’s interesting to see him issue congratulations to Marvel Studios after Avengers: Endgame recently toppled Titanic as the second-highest-grossing movie of all time.

Taking to Twitter, Cameron took part in a long Hollywood tradition of studio heads and directors congratulating one another for making bigger and better blockbusters. He left a note explaining that he was impressed with how well Endgame is doing and that he and the team at Lighstorm Entertainment are happy to know that big-screen events like this one are keeping the film industry alive and well in an era where people are worried about streaming supplanting the traditional moviegoing experience. Accompanied with the note is a shot of the Titanic itself running into the “A” of the Avengers logo. You can read it below:

Part of me thinks that Cameron’s appreciation here has at least a little bit to do with the fact that he answers to Disney now (as it owns both Fox and Marvel Studios), and that they’ll be bankrolling his Avatar sequels just like they’ve bankrolled his Avatar theme park at Disney World. Still, I’m happy to see that he’s being a good sport about this, and as someone who loves going to the theater, I’m happy that there can be these kind of massive event movies that get people off of the couch and into a big room with loud speakers and a gigantic screen. In any case, Cameron will still have bragging rights over writing, producing, and directing the two most successful movies of all time that aren’t sequels, a record that is unlikely to change anytime soon, if ever.

The film’s official synopsis is as follows:

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, Avengers: Endgame.

Avengers: Endgame is playing in theaters now.
