New ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ Trailer Will Feature ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Spoiler Warning

As previously rumored, the second Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer is indeed going to spoil the events of Avengers: Endgame. But here’s the good news: Tom Holland is leaving a message warning people about what they’re getting into before the trailer starts.

According to Trailer-Track, Tom Holland has apparently recorded a special message before the trailer plays warning viewers that have not yet seen Avengers: Endgame, but are interested in it, to not watch until after they’ve seen it. How this will actually work in a movie theater is unclear, but the courtesy is nice.

The timing for the apparent spoiler warning actually makes quite a bit of sense. Yesterday, Joe and Anthony Russo explained that the official Endgame spoiler ban will lift on Monday, which is not-so-coincidentally when this trailer is expected to drop. (Although the post-release TV spots seem to have no problem with giving away key action sequences from the film.) Following one of their most recent tweets, we’ll get into what I think it it that they’re going to spoil.

Avengers: Endgame spoilers after this point!

The event that’s most likely to be spoiled is the death of Tony Stark, which I imagine is going to bring a lot of poignancy to this story. Peter Parker was there to comfort his superhero mentor as he passed away due to using the Infinity Gauntlet to kill Thanos and his army, and the first trailer heavily implied that his death is a big reason why Peter’s not sure if he’s ready to put the suit back on to save the world. Kevin Feige stated that he saw everything from Captain America: Civil War to Spider-Man: Far From Home as being one big arc for Spider-Man, and because Tony has been a big part of that, Far From Home will likely represent the point where he becomes a truly independent superhero.

The film’s synopsis is as follows:

Peter Parker returns in Spider-Man: Far From Home, the next chapter of the Spider-Man: Homecoming series! Our friendly neighborhood Super Hero decides to join his best friends Ned, MJ, and the rest of the gang on a European vacation. However, Peter’s plan to leave super heroics behind for a few weeks are quickly scrapped when he begrudgingly agrees to help Nick Fury uncover the mystery of several elemental creature attacks, creating havoc across the continent!

Spider-Man: Far From Home will be released on July 2, 2019.
