Joe Russo Confirms ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Running Time

Avengers: Endgame
It’s official: Avengers: Endgame really is three hours and fifty-eight seconds, according to co-director Joe Russo. While the initial runtime was described as being three hours and two minutes, Russo says that there’s a logical explanation for that missing minute-and-change.

Talking with ComicBook.com, Russo explained that the cause for the minute-long descrepancy between the initial running time and the final running time boils down to one thing: the speed at which the credits move, and not anything being cut from the movie itself. In his own words:

“I think it’s three hours and fifty eight seconds. We just sped up the credits is what we did.”

Russo and his brother Anthony previously ran into questions from fans about being “censored” by Disney when a reported running time for Avengers: Infinity War was only a few minutes off from the final running time, leading to their confusion. It appears as though they want to get ahead of the curve and explain that the only thing that changed was how quickly the credits scroll, so they’re not faced with similar questions.

This confirmation comes straight off of a report from The Hollywood Reporter noting that exact running time as being the final cut, from their understanding, and now we know that that was accurate information. We should get confirmation from the MPAA when they rate the movie, which will most likely happen this coming Tuesday. Either way, this will easily make the film as not only the longest Marvel Studios movie ever released, but it will also make it one of the longest Summer blockbusters ever to hit theaters. In spite of that length, it’s expected to make anywhere from $225M and $300M on its opening weekend.

The film’s official synopsis is as follows:

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, Avengers: Endgame.

Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26, 2019.
