New Character Posters Released for ‘Aladdin’

Aladdin
After winning over audiences with the latest trailer, Disney are letting the Genie out of the lamp once more with four new character posters for Aladdin.

It’s amazing what a difference a trailer can make. After the Grammy Awards TV spot offered a first look at Will Smith’s Genie, the online reaction was fast and unforgiving. But one month, and more polished visual effects, can make all the difference. Disney came back strong with a full theatrical trailer featuring classic songs and a more visually impressive Genie. I honestly can’t think of the last time a movie took such wild swings from positive to negative and back again as Aladdin did from teaser, to TV spot, to full trailer.

With the live action reimagining a little under two months away, Disney have released four new character posters featuring Mena Massoud’s title character, Naomi Scott’s Jasmine, Will Smith’s Genie, and Marwan Kenzari’s Jafar. The posters also give us a good look a Abu, Iago (who will be voiced by Alan Tudyk), and Rajah, and it’s clear that whether it’s The Jungle Book or The Lion King, Disney know how to bring their animal characters to life with photorealistic CGI. Check the four posters out below:

Even still, the character posters pale in comparison with the new Japanese poster, showcasing the iconic magic carpet ride:

The film’s premise is as follows:

A thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic, Aladdin is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future. Directed by Guy Ritchie, who brings his singular flair for fast-paced visceral action to the fictitious port city of Agrabah, Aladdin is written by John August and Ritchie based on Disney’s Aladdin. The film stars Will Smith as the Genie; Mena Massoud as Aladdin; Naomi Scott as Jasmine; Marwan Kenzari as Jafar; Navid Negahban as the Sultan; Nasim Pedrad as Dalia; Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders; and Numan Acar as Hakim.

Aladdin opens May 24th.
