Hollywood Trade Supports ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Runtime Rumors

Avengers
With rumors that Avengers: Endgame is three hours long making the rounds, it was only a matter of time before one of the respected Hollywood trades looked into the situation. It turns out that this running time is just about on the mark, give or take a few minutes.

The Hollywood Reporter‘s latest piece about Endgame states that the movie is indeed set to be the longest MCU film by a long shot, easily taking the title from last year’s Avengers: Infinity War (which ran at 2 hours and 29 minutes). As far as they can tell, that reported 3 hour and 2 minute running time is going to be close to how long the movie actually is, give or take a few minutes. Since the MPAA have not yet rated the film (which will 100% be PG-13), the final version that will be reviewed by the ratings board has not yet been submitted. Once it gets its rating, we’ll know for sure how long or short the movie ends up being – but around 3 hours is the ballpark estimate.

That running time will make Endgame one of the longest Summer blockbusters in history, comparable to some of the later installments in Peter Jackson’s six Middle-earth movies. It’s perhaps fitting; considering that the creative team likened these two Avengers movies as “Lord of the Rings in space”, a pair of movies of this scale end up having massive running times to compliment those lengths. Fans will probably want to take a bathroom break before seeing Earth’s Mightiest Heroes join forces for one last battle.

The film’s official synopsis is as follows:

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, Avengers: Endgame.

Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26, 2019.
