‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ LEGO Sets Pit Spidey Against the Elementals

Spider-Man
The Spider-Man: Far From Home LEGO sets pit the webslinger, Nick Fury, and their seeming ally Mysterio against the mysterious magical threat known as the Elementals.

LEGO have three Marvel sets tied to the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home, with the first two being battles between Spider-Man, Mysterio, and the Elementals being referred to as Hydro-Man and Molten Man. The final one features Spidey, Mysterio, Nick Fury, and Happy Hogan on a Stark Jet, fighting off drones. Two Elementals are missing from these sets (and, for all we know, they might just be saved for later releases), while Spider-Man has a different costume for each battle:

So this leaves out Sandman and whatever the air-based Elemental is going to be (possibly Whirlwind, if they want to borrow a name from an Ant-Man villain instead of just sticking with Spider-Man antagonists). In the comics, the Elementals go by much different names: Hellfire, who is here being referred to as Molten Man; Hydron, who is here being referred to as Hydro-Man; Magnum, who is here being referred to as Sandman; and an unknown character representing Zephyr. As their names imply, these beings represent the powers of the elements of Fire, Water, Earth, and Air respectively. The first three have been shown in the trailer, and while Zephyr has not been seen clearly, it can be inferred that she’s causing the thunderstorm over London Bridge.

This is an interesting change from the comics, as Molten Man, Hydro-Man, and Sandman were all human characters with the respective identities of Mark Raxton, Morris Bench, and Flint Marko. Sandman previously appeared in 2007’s Spider-Man 3, while the other two have not appeared in a live-action capacity at all. It remains to be seen if we’ll get to see the likes of Raxton, Bench, and Marko in the Marvel Cinematic Universe eventually, and that the Elementals are just using these names for marketing purposes, or if this is how the MCU adapts these characters. In any case, this is the first time in a live-action movie that Spider-Man has gone up against magical villains, which is something that should set this story apart from the previous films.

Spider-Man: Far From Home will be released on July 5, 2019.
