Chella Man Joins ‘Titans’ as Jericho

Titans
Hot on the heels of last week’s Deathstroke casting, another member of the Wilson family is heading to Titans. DC Comics announced recently that Chella Man is joining the series as Joseph Wilson, better known as the superhero Jericho.

The announcement comes as DC Universe’s premiere series prepares to begin filming it’s sophomore season next month. The first season ended up being eleven episodes instead of the originally announced twelve as the creative team felt that the cliffhanger of Dick Grayson under the control of the demonic Trigon was a more effective season finale. The original finale, presumably the team’s battle with Trigon, will now serve as the basis for season two’s premiere, though it’s unclear how much of what was already filmed will be used and how much will be reshot when production begins.

Either way, these recent castings suggest that Trigon won’t be the major focus of the show’s second season. With Deathstroke coming, his son, Jericho, now confirmed, and his daughter, Ravager, also rumored, it certainly looks like the Wilson family will be playing a central role when the show returns.

Unlike their father, who is almost always portrayed as an enemy to the Titans, Joseph and his half-sister Rose are usually portrayed as heroes in the DCU. Both of Slade’s children have been members of the Titans and, based on Jericho’s character description, it appears that he will joining the team on screen next season:

“Son of the infamous DC villain Deathstroke (played by Esai Morales), Joseph Wilson is the Titan known as Jericho. Mute after his father failed to rescue him from having his vocal cords severed by assassins, Jericho has the unique ability to possess anyone just by making eye contact. This gentle natured yet proud hero has proven himself a formidable Titan.”

Though the core team consisted of just Robin, Raven, Starfire, and Beast Boy last season, with Hawk, Dove, and Donna Troy all confirmed to be returning, and the additions of Superboy and Jericho, it looks like the roster of Titans will be growing!

Jericho will be Chella Man’s acting debut, having previously been a model and a prominent speaker on gender, identity, race, and disability politics, with his YouTube channel dedicated to giving his personal account of gender transition and living “deaf, Genderqueer, Chinese and Jewish”. Though it is currently unknown if Jericho will be bisexual on Titans, as the character has been in the comics since DC’s New 52 reboot in 2011, Man’s casting brings a welcome diversity to the cast.

The first season of Titans is currently streaming on DC Universe in America, and on Netflix internationally.
