Disney-Fox Deal is Set to Finalize Next Week

The massive Disney-Fox merger is set to finalize one week and one day from now, marking the end of an era for Hollywood as the Streaming Wars truly begin.

The Wrap reports that Disney-Fox is set to finalize on March 20 at 12:02 AM Eastern Time, according to a new press release from Disney themselves. The press release also includes a statement indicating that “no further extension of exchange offers and consent solicitations” will be necessary. The Disney-Fox merger is set to conclude closer to Disney’s intended timeline (which stated that the deal could be finalized in late February to early March) than the one provided by Fox (who expected the deal to wrap in June).

Disney will gain the following assets from Fox with their $71.3B purchase:

  • 20th Century Fox Film Corporation
    • 20th Century Fox
      • 20th Century Fox Animation
      • Fox Family
    • Fox Searchlight Pictures
    • Fox 2000 Pictures
    • Fox Studios Australia
  • Fox Television Group
    • 20th Century Fox Television
    • Fox 21 Television Studios
    • FX Networks
    • FX Productions
    • A 73% share in National Geographic Partners
  • Fox Networks Group International
    • Fox Networks Group Asia
    • Fox Networks Group Europe
    • Fox Networks Group Latin America
  • Blue Sky Studios
  • A 50% share in Endemol Shine Group
  • Star India
  • A 30% share in Tata Sky
  • An additional 30% stake in Hulu
  • A lease on 20th Century Fox’s lot in Hollywood

Meanwhile, Fox Corporation will be spun-off of the content that Fox did not sell to Disney, with the newer, leaner company focusing more on sports and news coverage. Fox mogul Rupert Murdoch reached out to several companies when he decided to cash out on part of the entertainment industry, and deemed that Disney was the best fit for the assets that he was selling. And so, he will be that much richer, and Disney will have that much many more intellectual properties under their umbrella with their most ambitious acquisition of all time.

Disney-Fox is set to wrap up on March 20. Stay tuned to Movie News Net for our article covering a more in-depth look at what this means for Disney and Hollywood going forward when the deal is officially announced.
