‘Clifford the Big Red Dog’ Gets November 2020 Release Date

Clifford the Big Red Dog
Walt Becker’s big screen adaptation of the beloved Clifford the Big Red Dog children’s books has now been given a release date. According to The Hollywood Reporter the Paramount movie will arrive on November 13th 2020, just in time for Thanksgiving.

The currently untitled adaptation is based on Norman Bridwell’s book series that follows the adventures of two year old Clifford, a twenty five foot tale red dog, and his eight year old owner, Emily Elizabeth. The children’s series ran for eighty books from 1963 to 2015 so there’s plenty of material for the movie adaptation to draw inspiration from.

Following his debut, Clifford proved so popular that he helped establish Scholastic as one of America’s leading publishing companies and serves as the company’s official mascot. His adventures inspired two animated series, that ran on PBS kids, with a new series planned for Amazon Prime later this year.

Despite his popularity, Clifford’s road to the big screen has been a little bumpy. Beginning at Universal/Illumination in 2012, the big red dog was expected to hit the big screen in 2016. When those plans fell through, the canine found a new home at Paramount, with Ellen Rapoport rewriting a script from Justin Malen, and Walt Becker signing on to direct in 2017.

The big red dog will hit the big screen on November 13th 2020.
