Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ May End With Season 7

Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. may be ending its run with Season 7, according to series lead Clark Gregg. It seems that even though ABC were quick to greenlight two more seasons of the show after it spent so much time on the bubble of cancellation, the end for the series may very well be in sight.

Speaking with Clark Gregg at a press junket for Captain Marvel (which Gregg reprises his role as Phil Coulson in on the big screen, for the first time since 2012’s The Avengers), Den of Geek was able to ask Gregg about the future of the series and if it would wrap up next year with Season 7. To their surprise, it sounds like that season is indeed going to be the end of the line for the team:

“That’s the word I’ve heard. The announcement I read was, two more seasons, six and seven. [I really don’t know] about [Season 7]… I can’t wait for people to see Season 6! People who have been on the journey with me and with Phil Coulson are going to get something very, very different.”

It was decided that both Season 6 and Season 7 (which recently started filming) would be ordered at the same time to save on production costs and take advantage of scheduling. But if the end of the show is in sight, then the decision to film the two remaining seasons side-by-side makes even more sense.

Will Phil Coulson have a future in the MCU after Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ends? For now, Gregg hasn’t heard anything. He’s grateful that he was able to keep playing the character after being killed off in the movies, and would be down to do more if it’s asked of him, but seems to be satisfied even if this is the end of the road:

“I feel so grateful for the journey that I’ve had, that I’m hesitant to ask for anything. I’ll never say no when the Marvel Universe calls up. I feel very grateful for what I’ve done.”

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 6 will air in May 2019. The show has also been renewed for a Season 7, which does not yet have a release window.
