‘Disney Villains’ Series Coming to Disney+

Disney Villains
The heroes better get ready, because the villains are coming! That’s right, Disney’s famous villains are getting their own show. According to Production Weekly, Disney are working on a Disney Villains series for their new streaming service, with production set to start next year.

The live-action series is being developed by Steve Pearlman (Once Upon A Time) and Michael Seitzman (Quantico), with production currently scheduled to begin during the second quarter of 2020 at Ardmore Studios in Ireland.

Whilst no further information is known at this time, this isn’t the first time that Disney Villains have teamed up. From Fantasmic in the parks to House of Mouse on Disney Channel, the villains frequently worked together in Once Upon A Time and even the Hercules animated series featured a team up between Hades and Jafar. However, this will be the first time we really see their adventures from their point of view, and that’s one of the most exciting and intriguing prospects for this series. Yes, there was Maleficent – and the upcoming sequel – but that film cast Disney’s Mistress of Evil as a misunderstood heroine, something a series called Disney Villains is unlikely to do.

Whatever form the series takes, whether it retells the classic tales from the bad guys perspective or brings all their worlds together and creates it’s own mythology, Disney’s villains are frequently some of their most memorable characters, so the chance to get under their skin and see what makes them tick is sure to make this a can’t miss series for any Disney fan. And who knows, if the Villains are a hit, can the Princesses and Heroes be far behind?

Disney+ is due to launch later this year.
