Warner Bros. Schedules ‘Space Jam 2’ and More

Warner
Warner Bros. have announced some new release dates for Space Jam 2Godzilla vs. Kong, and Annabelle 3, which will all be released over the course of the next three years.

The Hollywood Reporter received an update stating that the long-gestating sequel to Space Jam is finally set to come on and slam and welcome to the jam on July 16, 2021. Warner Bros. are using the film as another attempt to revitalize the Looney Tunes brand after its prominence in the grand scheme of the many franchises owned by Warner Bros. has diminished over the years. The project will be directed by Terence Nance, produced by Ryan Coogler, and will star LeBron James, the Looney Tunes regulars, and a few other NBA all-stars.

Meanwhile, the long-awaited match-up between two icons of kaiju cinema (Godzilla vs. Kong) is moving forward about two months to take a March 11, 2020 release date. Originally set for release in May, Warner Bros. decided to move the monster mash away from the new release date for Universal’s The Fast and the Furious 9. The film will serve as the culmination of the MonsterVerse setting that began with 2014’s reimagining of Godzilla, and serves as a direct follow-up to 2017’s Kong: Skull Island and this year’s Godzilla: King of the MonstersGodzilla vs. Kong will be directed by Adam Wingard and will feature returning characters from the preceding films.

Lastly, New Line’s Annabelle 3 has been moved up a week from July 3, 2019 to June 28, 2019. The movie was written and directed by Gary Dauberman, who wrote the previous two Annabelle spin-offs to the popular The Conjuring series. The film will also see appearances from Patrick Wilson and Vera Farminga as Edward and Lorraine Warren, the lead characters of the two earlier movies in the series and the upcoming third installment, which will arrive in 2020.
