Empire Reveals New ‘Shazam!’ Image

Shazam
We’re just over six weeks from Shazam! hitting theaters, and with DC riding high after the phenomenal success of Aquaman the time is right for a new look at DC’s next hero. Sadly, we’ll have to wait a little longer for a new trailer, but Empire today revealed a new image of Zachary Levi as the titular hero.

Speaking with Empire, Levi discussed his time with both the MCU and DC Films, what he feels could have been done better, and what he hopes to see in Shazam’s future.

“I don’t think those characters were quite utilised to the best of their abilities,” he told Empire whilst discussing his time as one of Thor’s Warriors Three. “Thor and the Warriors Three could have been a really cool little trilogy of team movies, and we didn’t have much impact. Particularly not in Ragnarok – I mean, I didn’t even have a line.”

Whilst a Warriors Three trilogy was likely never on the cards for the MCU, Levi’s quick death in Ragnarok opened the door to another comic book universe. He was available to take on Shazam! And the results speak for themselves in this new image from Empire:

Though Levi’s Fandral only briefly appeared in the MCU, he has higher hopes for his future involvement in the Shazam! franchise, should the first film prove a success with audiences. “I hope I get to be part of the Justice League,” he told Empire, before going on to recount meeting another DC hero at Comic Con. “At San Diego, Jason Momoa quite literally took me under his wing, put his arm around me and was like, ‘Welcome to the family.'”

Empire promises more coverage of Shazam!, including on set interviews and exclusive new images, when their April issue goes on sale February 21.

Shazam! hits theaters on April 5, 2019.
