Movies Coming Out This Week: ‘How to Train Your Dragon’

After a crowded Valentine’s Day weekend at the movies, things are slowing down this week as How to Train Your Dragon wraps up its trilogy.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

Though The Hidden World may have had a theatrical run elsewhere around the world earlier this year, it’s finally getting a U.S. release this week. With a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, critics and audiences alike seem to really be enjoying this installment of the franchise. Seeing how well-regarded the previous two entries in the series were, I don’t think its unfair to say that How to Train Your Dragon is DreamWorks’ best franchise to date. And yet, The Hidden World is being touted as the final installment of this franchise. Series director Dean DeBlois has always claimed that How to Train Your Dragon was a three-part story, and now, audiences will be able to witness the conclusion to this narrative. Hiccup and Toothless have both come a long way in their friendship, and if you’ve enjoyed the series so far, then the final chapter to their story should be a must-see for fans.

Aside from T.J. Miller, the voice cast that we’ve come to enjoy in these movies all return, including Gerard Butler. Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Cate Blanchett, Craig Ferguson, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Kristen Wiig, and Kit Harington all come to bring this series to a close.

Synopsis

Now chief and ruler of Berk, Hiccup has successfully created a dragon utopia. When the sudden appearance of a female Light Fury coincides with the darkest threat their village has ever faced, Hiccup and Toothless must leave the only home they’ve ever known and journey to a hidden world thought only to exist in myth.

Fighting with My Family

Fighting with My Family was officially released in theaters last week, but has expanded to a wider release this week.

This movie is a biographical sports film based on the 2012 documentary The Wrestlers: Fighting with My Family. Both films depict the WWE career of professional wrestler Saraya “Paige” Bevis. Being produced by WWE Studios, it’s not hard to view this film as a simple branding gimmick for WWE. However, Fighting with My Family currently holds a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, so perhaps there is some heart to be found underneath all of the WWE branding.

Starring Florence Pugh, Jack Lowden, Nick Frost, Lena Headey and Vince Vaughn, the film is executive produced by none other than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson himself, and is written and directed by Stephen Merchant. Fighting with My Family will have a U.S. release on the 14th, and a U.K. release shortly after on the 27th.

Synopsis:

Born into a tight-knit wrestling family, Paige and her brother Zak are ecstatic when they get the opportunity to try out for the WWE. But when only Paige earns a spot in the competitive training program, she must leave her loved ones behind and face this new cutthroat world alone.

Limited Theatrical Releases/Streaming Releases

The Changeover

A supernatural thriller based based on a Margaret Mahy novel of the same name. Given a small release back in 2018, The Changeover will be available for streaming this week alongside a limited theatrical run. It currently holds a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes (based off of only 8 reviews).
