ABC Not Proceeding With Female-Led Marvel Show
ABC have decided not to proceed with the female-led Marvel drama series from Wonder Woman scribe Allan Heinberg.
Announced last year, the series was said to focus on “female characters with superpowers” and received a pilot commitment from ABC. Today, Deadline have confirmed that ABC have chosen not to move ahead with the pilot order. As is often the case with projects this early in development, especially ones tied to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, very few details were revealed about the series. Initial speculation was that it might have been based on comics such as A-Force, Lady Liberators, and Fearless Defenders, but this was never confirmed.
Though Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s season seven renewal takes some pressure off ABC, finding a potential replacement series is still a priority for the network. Speaking with Deadline, ABC’s Karey Burke expressed her desire to do more with Marvel. “I hope there is more than we are doing together,” Burke said.
It’s currently unknown whether the series from Heinberg, Marvel Television, and ABC Studios will be redeveloped, but the next Marvel series from ABC is very likely to be led by a female hero. Before this untitled series ABC previously developed Jessica Jones, before it moved to Netflix, and at the Television Critics Association today Burke stated that reclaiming ABC’s crown as the top rated network among women was one of her main goals for the network.
