RUMOR: ‘Batman Beyond’ Animated Movie in Development

Batman Beyond
Recently, Warner Bros. have confirmed that an animated Super Pets movie is in development, showing that the company wants to keep expanding on the animated front after The LEGO Batman Movie and Teen Titans GO! To the Movies proved to be financial successes for the company. A new rumor indicates that there’s another franchise that they want to take a look at: Batman Beyond is going to be reimagined on the big screen with a distinctive animation style.

According to GeeksWorldWide, Warner Animation Group has taken notice to the success of Sony Pictures Animation’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and they want in on it. The project was likely already in the early stages of development, but Spider-Verse quickly becoming SPA’s biggest hit domestically has put development into high gear. If all goes according to plan, then the movie will be out sometime in 2022. As of now, no creative team has been selected for the film, and nobody has been cast just yet. It is rumored that WAG are looking for an Asian-American voice actor to portray this version of Terry, the main character:

Set in a cyberpunk future version of Gotham City, Bruce Wayne has been retired from being the Batman for years, and Wayne has lost his corporation in a hostile takeover from another billionaire named Derek Powers. Crime has run rampant in Gotham in his absence, and after saving a young man named Terry McGinnis from a violent gang, McGinnis learns of Wayne’s secret past. When McGinnis’s father is murdered under circumstances tied to the Wayne-Powers corporation (going all the way to the top, as Powers himself is responsible for his death), the former Batman empathizes with McGinnis and teaches him to become the next Dark Knight. Thus begins a mentor-student relationship as a fading ember passes the torch to a bright spark, and Gotham regains the hero it so desperately needs.

Batman Beyond is allegedly in development at Warner Bros, along with other DC animated projects that will see theatrical releases.
