‘Birds of Prey’: Margot Robbie Reveals First Look

Birds Of Prey
Margot Robbie was the breakout star of Suicide Squad, regardless of mixed-to-negative reception to that movie. So it only makes sense that she would be the one to usher in our first look at Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) with a short costume test video and a new look at Harley Quinn herself.

Earlier today, Margot Robbie took to Instagram to show that she got back into costume for Birds of Prey (which just began filming mere days ago), complete with a cheeky caption:

Not long afterward came a short clip further revealing Harley Quinn in her new outfit, along with several quick glimpses at Robbie’s co-stars, set to a bubbly synthpop instrumental:

Aside from Robbie’s Harley Quinn, we get a glimpses at the rest of the cast of Birds of Prey, including Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez), Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco), Black Mask (Ewan McGregor), and Victor Zsasz (Chris Messina). The short teaser seems to capture the film’s tone as being less of a gritty crime tale akin to the Birds of Prey comics and more in-line with the Harley Quinn ongoing series. Given the absence of Batgirl from the line-up of characters, it also seems like a sequel without Harley could happen following the proposed Batgirl movie. For now, DC Films are focused on a single film at a time, and it seems like this could be another interesting change of pace for comic book movies if it’s handled correctly. DC have a more interesting line-up of female characters than Marvel anyway, so it only makes sense that they’ll be capitalizing on that as the company plants the seeds for movies down the road.

Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) will be released on February 7, 2020.
