Warner Animation Group Making ‘Funko’ Movie and More

Funko
After definitively proving to audiences that making a LEGO movie was not a terrible idea at all, Warner Animation Group are setting their sights on another toy line that they want to bring to life: an assortment of stuff from Funko, who notably produce figures like the popular Pop! collectibles. In addition, some other projects that the people at WAG are working on have come to light.

Recently, SuperBroMovies scribe DanielRPK managed to leak a planning board of animated projects in development at Warner Bros., which includes information on a never-before-revealed movie based on the ever-popular Funko line of toys. Yes, seriously. Take a look below:

Daniel shared some additional information of note, explaining that Warner Bros. won’t be limited in the kind of Funko that appear in this film, as Marvel characters will appear alongside DC and Dark Horse characters:

Moving beyond the realm of Funko, there’s a whole slate of other animated projects (and animated/live-action projects) on this slate. The projects shown above are categorized by the time period in which they begin development, meaning that it’s more likely that we’ll see development on Toto: The Dog-Gone Amazing Story of the Wizard of Oz and/or The Cat in the Hat move forward more quickly than The Billion Brick Race.

A curious absence from this list of projects in the “greenlit” stage of things are a slate of Hanna-Barberra movies. WB first announced plans to develop a number of animated movies based on those IPs back in 2016, but only The Jetsons is mentioned. (One possible explanation is that if the projects were greenlit before 2019, then they wouldn’t be included on this list of projects.) Likewise, Warner Bros. also have plans for Looney Tunes movies, with two projects (Coyote v. ACME and a sequel to Space Jam) represented. The upcoming new take on Tom and Jerry is apparently on this board, but was cut off from the image due to being below Space Jam 2. The DC animated project is not a sequel to The LEGO Batman Movie, but is believed to be a new project called Super Pets.

In general, it seems a lot like Warner Animation Group is set to become a real powerhouse as far as animated companies go, and considering how dormant they were prior to 2014, that would be quite an accomplishment. Here’s hoping that the Funko project ends up turning out more like The LEGO Movie than The Emoji Movie.
