RUMOR: ‘Breaking Bad’ Film Sequel Gets Cast Details

Breaking Bad
SPOILER ALERT: This article will cover unmarked spoilers for AMC’s Breaking Bad, as the project itself is set immediately after the end of the crime drama. This is your only warning.

Breaking Bad ended on a perfectly dark, bittersweet note, as tragic hero/villain Walter White came to terms with his demise and got redemption by saving Jesse Pinkman (his former student turned partner-in-crime) from a lifetime of slavery… But what happened to Pinkman after he drove off?

The sequel to Breaking Bad is set to show that just because Pinkman is free doesn’t mean that he’s free from his past life, as personal demons catch up with him in the aftermath of his time as a meth-cooker. Information obtained by Revenge of the Fans discussing the project codenamed Greenbrier has revealed that aside from Aaron Paul, some of the cast and crew of the critically-acclaimed AMC series will reunite in the movie, including Jonathan Banks, Jesse Plemons, Charles Baker, Matt Jones, Robert Forster, Tess Harper, and Kevin Rankin.

Some of the characters that the aforementioned actors played are dead by the last scenes of of Breaking Bad, so it might be prudent to assume that flashbacks are involved. And there are also apparently characters associated with the spin-off series Better Call Saul who never appeared on the show who will appear here, suggesting a potential tie-in to the next season of that series. But two names stand out far more than the rest, and one of them is definitely a dead character: Krysten Ritter, whose character (Jane Margolis) died of a heroin overdose. The other big name involved with the project is bound to inspire debate given the nature of the show’s ending: Bryan Cranston, Walter White himself.

The final scenes of the show have White collapse upon the floor, bleeding out from his injuries as the authorities storm the facility. It makes sense for the show to end with White’s death, but that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating that White may be alive in custody. It doesn’t seem likely that they’d go with a cop-out ending to a show about death, revealing that White gets to live the rest of his days in a jail cell, but even still, the project is very secretive and it’s not clear what Vince Gilligan will be going for in his continuation of his series. In any case, Gilligan has clearly established that he’s the kind of director that knows what he’s doing, so hopefully Greenbrier ends up being a cherry on top of an already-fantastic television series.

Greenbrier is in development at Sony Pictures and Sony Television. It is currently unclear if the film will see a theatrical release or if it will be released exclusively for television.
