Final ‘Game of Thrones’ Episodes Are Longer Than Usual
With Game of Thrones coming to its conclusion after an eight-year run, fans have been left to wonder how the show will resolve its main plot points in six episodes. A recent bit of information revealed through an international affiliate with HBO may reveal the answer: the last episodes will all be over an hour in length.
In a new piece from Vanity Fair, two of the final episodes of Game of Thrones will slightly exceed the 60 minute mark, while remaining four may go on for 80 or more minutes. A rough estimate would put the show’s remaining runtime above seven hours. This information comes from OCS, a French television network tied to HBO. Premiere, a French film publication, also shared some of this information via Twitter:
Précision utile : @OCSTV a expliqué oralement que les deux premiers épisodes de la saison finale de #GameOfThrones allaient durer 60 minutes, et les quatre suivants 80 mn d'après les dernières infos de HBO https://t.co/UIDwB7xtvU

While these running times are not final (note that the image featured in the above tweet suggests the presence of six 90-minute episodes), it should give fans an idea of what to expect going into the last episodes of the series. But if these estimates hold true, then the final six episodes will be about as long as the prior season’s seven. With any hope, the fabled Song of Ice and Fire is one that will end with a bang, and not a whimper.
Game of Thrones Season 8 will air on April 14, 2019.
